I will be starting on my thesis soon next month. I have some semblance of an outline but I havent gotten pen to paper as yet, even though I have been on holiday for almost a month now. I had such grand plans but they always remain as such. The thing about doing the thesis is that I wont need to attend any more classes but I'm thinking of sitting in for a couple, just to "artificially construct" a conducive environment. I can't believe I'm saying this but without the "class" environment, I'd probably not be half-arsed about my thesis. I need that sense of urgency/ stress/ psychotic feelings I guess.
Am I mad or what?
So how was everyone's Christmas? Did you get/ give good presents? Because I was really broke this year, I gave out
Playmobil figurines to everyone. They are the cutest! I prefer them to Lego tinyfigs.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
I do like Christmas alot but because I work in the retail line (bookstore), I have to witness horrible things that people are just not supposed to do during Christmas (or on further thought, they are just not supposed to be doing any of the following things anytime during the year, period!)
1. Being rude and utterly demanding to the info counter staff. (Just
wait your turn, damnit, and harassing the staff while he/she is still helping another customer is just ill-mannered).
2. Grumbling/ Complaining (very loudly) about how long the queue is and how you are in such a tearing hurry ("so is everyone else, ****").
I think that about sums it up. Thank goodness, I work in the back office (part-time) and I have been trying my darnest not to appear on the shopfloor these couple of days. But I still remember that basically people are just downright rude during the christmas season ("you are not the only one buying last-minute christmas presents!"). If you want service, wait for it.
Also, being in the retail line also means that you can basically just kiss your holidays goodbye. Yes I have to work on Christmas DAY! *sob* I worked also today and on my way to work, I slipped and fell (it was raining the night before) right on the knee and now there is this horrible bruise on it. And because my colleague/ friend dared me to take a picture of it and post it here, here it is:
Today is the day!
My friends and I managed to get tickets online for the LOTR: The Two Towers preview tonight!
Yayayyyyy!
I got to thinking the other day while watching a rerun of Star Wars: A New Hope that how structurally
similar they seem to be:
Star Wars: A New Hope vs. LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring
|
Luke Skywalker | vs. | The Hobbits Frodo/ Sam |
Han Solo | vs. | Aragon the Strider |
|
Princess Leia | vs | Arwen (?) |
R2D2/ C3PO | vs. | The Hobbits Merry/ Pippin |
Darth Vader | vs. | Sauron |
|
Obiwan/Yoda | vs | Gandalf |
what else? |
That's all I came up with at the moment. But I'm sure there are loads of other similarities out there.
By the way, I wanted to set up the above comparison in a table but I dont know how to do it in HTML. Can anyone enlighten me please? (
mike?)
*Thanks so much Mike for the help! I really appreciate it.*
The inevitable Monday Blues get a new lineup: late Sunday evening = right now.
I can't believe I'm sitting here thinking of all the things I have to do tomorrow at work.
I actually feel sick thinking about it.
I've got preview tickets to Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers! What's more, I get to watch it a day earlier too!
I'm rather excited about it. Next Wednesday is too far away.
Although LOTR totally violates my 2hr-per-movie-before-i-get-bored-and-die rule, I dont remember feeling the time pass at all for the 1st installment last year. I'm not so much a movie person actually, cos my attention span is basically quite short. I can't remember the last movie I watched (on the big screen): it might have been Minority Report (*gasp*)! It was alright, but i didnt feel anything for/against it. I have probably slept through some of the middle bits.
Random word of the day:
triskaidekaphobia: (n.)
An abnormal fear of the number 13.
concert was pretty cool. Nice tracklist, mostly from new album (which imho is not as good as the older stuff) but had loads of fun. got tix by the side of Flea, which is an automatic entertainment in itself. The impromptu set with John F. was f. excellent! It was worth the tix price in itself (and may i emphasise that i am dead broke because of it?)
The guys were really fit! Flea was doing handstands lasting like, forever, and Anthony Kiedis was spinning around like a mad man long after all of us were out of breath. I hurt my knee though, when I was jumping wildly up and down. It's a big bruise! My body's aching like hell (i am sadly to say, v. unfit).
I am so tired!
p.s: sorry: no pics. couldnt bear the thought of losing/dropping etc my camera at the gig. too many psychos around
The day has come.
The
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
concert is
tomorrow!!
Amazing Race is coming to Singapore!!
My new hobby: chess.
But the thing is: I'm really really bad. I suck. I learnt it online last year and have been playing at yahoo games on and off. It's weird when you try to adjust from a 2D screen online to a real-life 3D chess game. I had been playing "real" chess with my friend and got beaten every single time, mostly cos I suck (of cos) but I'm also a little disoriented by the "real" pieces. I even messed up the set-up once! How embarrassing.
I learnt chess because I thought I should, and also because I want to learn to "strategise." It's quite fun actually, but the losing part is getting to be quite a downer.
Have any of you guys picked up a new hobby lately?
