Some random pictures from Tuesday when my friend Melissa and I went to send Michelle off to London on that (2 years!!) working holiday trip:
We were taking so many pictures that we could have been mistaken for tourists ourselves!

But it's cool that we didnt end up like sobbing or crap like that. Just a friendly handshake and she's off to see the world.

Observation: there is no nice picture of michelle at all! Damn!

Northern Exposure is one of my favourite TV series of all time. I especially liked the quote below and got to thinking about it after reading mike's blog and loki's comments on Dylan Thomas ("rage, rage against the dying of the light").

Here's the entire quote:
Ep 4:18: Northern Lights

Chris Stevens (John Corbett):

Goethe's final words: "More light." Ever since we crawled out of that primodial slime, that's been our unifying cry, "More light." Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlelight. Neon, incandescent lights that banish the darkness from our caves to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier's field. Little tiny flashlights for those books we read under the covers when we're supposed to be asleep. Light is more than watts and footcandles. Light is metaphor. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Lead kindly, light, amid the encircling gloom, lead thou me on. The night is dark and I am far from home. Lead thou me on. Arise, shine for thy light has come. Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light.

Please support the release of the series on DVD by clicking here and vote.

You can also download the video (Ep 4:18)here (realplayer required).
It's real cool.

I cleaned up my room today and threw away loads of things. It was a very cathartic but also nostalgic experience. I simply cannot believe the amount of junk I owned. I'm really quite tired now.

Good news though for Radiohead fans: details on the new album coming out in June.
Yet another reason to live.

A close friend is leaving for UK on a working holiday visa a week from this coming Tuesday. She will be gone for 2 years.

It will be weird without you around, micHELLe.

Hero

I watched the movie, Hero, today. It's touted to be the "crouching tiger" of this year. It's directed by Zhang Yimou and it's really quite cool. Colour symbolism is one of the many Zhang's trademarks (Raise the Red Lantern springs to mind) and it is interesting how the story is separated into 4 layers represented by red, green, blue, and white. It is both subtle and obvious at the same time. However, there are some trite themes common to almost all chinese period movies: the noble sacrifices, the enlightenment needed to reach a higher level of one's skills etc.

I'm not too sure about it being the second "crouching tiger." They are both different in their own ways, I guess. But oh, the scenery/ cinematography is really breathtaking.

Watch it.

p.s.: Does anyone know of any good image resizer (by pixels) other than photoshop? I have some pictures I want to post..

Oh. My. God.
Derrida the movie is going to be shown at the 16th International Film Fest in Singapore. I'm really excited cos I really respect him as a thinker and when I heard that there's a movie made about him, I was hoping against hope that it will make it to Singapore. And it did!!
It's going to be shown from April 18- May 8: a reason for me to stay alive till then.
I have to also make sure that I'm still alive for the 3rd installment of LOTR. It seems that I'm only living for movies!

I'd think that given the advancing invasion of technology into our homes, we'd soon outgrow the need of pen and paper. But I dont think it's ever going to be true. There is a certain appeal, is there not, in putting pen to paper and writing, instead of feeding information into the computer via the keyboard.

I like to write. I used to keep diaries/ notebooks full of thoughts and just random stuff. I havent done that for a while now. When I started this blog, one of my apprehensions is that I would somehow outgrow my diaries/notebooks. I thought: who needs pen/paper when I can just keep a journal online? Well. As many of you know, keeping an online journal is often a double-edged sword. Sure, one can write just about anything since the blog belongs to you. But who really will spill their hearts out especially when the danger of something private being read by someone else is much higher than say, your mom/dad/siblings reading your stuff? That's also probably the reason why many bloggers keep 2 blogs. One "public," and the other private.

I tried doing that too. But it's just not the same as putting pen to paper. It's in fact very tiring. I came across my notebooks today and spent some time reading them. I don't remember a lot of the events that happen but I can sort of recapture the feelings I had at that particular point of time. I'd like to be able to do that again, just for the sake of my stumbling across it again in the future.

I think I will go get a nice, new fresh notebook tomorrow to start writing again.

There will be an interesting event on Sat at our local Borders. I came across the ad today. It's about chinese palmistry. You know how people are interested in horoscopes and stuff like palm reading. I guess so long as one is not too obsessed about it, it is fun to learn about stuff like that. One of my friends told me that it seems as if i have a "broken palm" (directly translated from Chinese--and because my Chinese is pretty bad--it might not be accurate). Apparently, it means that i am pretty smart but (there's always a BUT) my life will be pretty short. HMMMM..

I think I had better confirm this at the event on Sat.

The Switch?

I've been toying with the idea of switching from Blogger to Moveable Type. It seems more reliable somehow. I'm not too sure if I should though cos I think I will still probably be ftping to Blogger (kinda defeats the purpose, doesn't it?). On the other hand, I dont want to jump start my own domain cos it's just too time-consuming, especially since I only update maybe 2-3 times a week: it just does not work out the odds. Does anyone has any (horror) stories about Moveable Type? I'm still not too sure how FTP works (do I just download the program from downloads.com? and it will just work out?)
Comments please.
