Hero

I watched the movie, Hero, today. It's touted to be the "crouching tiger" of this year. It's directed by Zhang Yimou and it's really quite cool. Colour symbolism is one of the many Zhang's trademarks (Raise the Red Lantern springs to mind) and it is interesting how the story is separated into 4 layers represented by red, green, blue, and white. It is both subtle and obvious at the same time. However, there are some trite themes common to almost all chinese period movies: the noble sacrifices, the enlightenment needed to reach a higher level of one's skills etc.

I'm not too sure about it being the second "crouching tiger." They are both different in their own ways, I guess. But oh, the scenery/ cinematography is really breathtaking.

Watch it.

p.s.: Does anyone know of any good image resizer (by pixels) other than photoshop? I have some pictures I want to post..
