I've just finished
The Da Vinci Code in practically 1 sitting last night. Yes, I know it being V'day and all, it might seem a little pathetic, but it was alright in the end. There are too many people in town anyways to be able to do anything remotely interesting so curling up with a book at home sounded like a good idea.
Anyways, the book is a good mix between mystery (who did it?) and history (the Knights Templar and The Hunt for the Holy Grail, Mary Madalene and Merovingian bloodline etc.) I used to be quite interested in this but I remembered that the book I picked up previously on this subject (
Holy Blood, Holy Grail) was so scary (the authors really go out of their way to be quite sensationalistic) that I gave up halfway. But Dan Brown really crafted the
Da Vinci Code very well. The mystery of the story is not in any way compromised by the brevity of the history and instead the two weaves together quite effectively to create a very interesting read.
I finally finished the book at about close to 2 in the morning, having started just after dinner.
